5 Seconds of Summer deliver sunshine in a song with their newest single “Wildflower”.
The release comes just days before the Aussie band is set to debut their fourth studio album CALM on Friday, March 27th. This marks the 6th single to stream after “Best Years” was released as an acoustic rendition by lead singer Luke Hemmings earlier this week.
Wildflower dips into synthetic rock, with a strong keyboard presence that brings a new dimension to the sound of the band. Calum Hood takes over on lead vocals, and delivers an electric performance. The track begins with the band harmonizing “Wildflower” before building up into the chorus. The lyrics are purposely left unwritten which leaves lots to the imagination:
“You’re the only one who makes me
Every time we
I’ll tell you what I like
My Wildflower”
Lyrically, “Wildflower” is a sultry dedication to love and lust; musically, it is another example of the versatility and growth of a band 9 years in the making.
5 Seconds of Summer tweeted about the song being a “Frankenstein” of their love of music. However, if their previous releases are any indication, the entire album is going to be a mashup of different genres.
