The Kid LAROI tapped in “Plastic Hearts” singer Miley Cyrus to join him on the remixed track of “Without You” released April 30th.
The original song comes from the Australian vocalists 2020 explicit (SAVAGE) deluxe album F*CK LOVE. The ending track of disc 1, “Without You”, became an instant hit, going viral on TikTok and garnering hundreds of thousands of streams.
So as it goes, fans were quick to try and guess Laroi’s next move. No one could have anticipated Cyrus joining him on the new rendition of his most popular track.
Cyrus, who is hot off releasing her 7th studio album “Plastic Hearts” in 2020 and performing at the Super Bowls #TikTokTailgate, was seemingly a bold choice. However, the artist is no stranger to adapting her unique style to fit in with different sounds. At 17, Laroi has already worked with music giants like Justin Bieber and Marshmello.
The addition of Cyrus gives a new dimension to the heartbreak track. Their unique vocals together add an intensity to the lyrics that may not have been possible to accomplish with Laroi alone. There was a give and take heard within the music and throughout the song. There were moments that Cyrus carried the melody and then fell back. The singers alternated verses, which allowed them to stand out artistically. The shining moment? When Laroi came back to deliver a belting note at the end of the second pre-chorus.
The music video for the song, which was directed by Cyrus “on a random week night” shows the duo lounging under disco balls, eating McDonald's, singing by a fire, and more.
The remixed track brought something new to the table and showed that the 17-year-old musician could not only hold his own but shine on a track featuring an industry icon like Cyrus.
